Brief

"Bakota is a desirable and interesting place to relax".A flooded village in Ukraine-Bakota is located in the National Natural Park Podilsky Tovtry. Here you can swim in the river, make a trip on boats and catamarans. In Bakota you can take fantastic and beautiful photos and see one of the most luxurious species in Ukraine. Of course, there are hotels here, but fans of extreme and unforgettable experiences can spend the night in a tent, go fishing, fry meat and fish on the fire.
Bakota is worth visiting, as archeological excavations show that there were many sanctuaries of pagans and chapels. This village has very interesting story. When you look at the beautiful landscapes of Bakota, you see a giant crown made of high, green mountains. There are no forests on them, only grass. The main hill is Teremets rock. Bakota is located opposite the highest mountain, on the banks of the Dniester River. The first mention of Bakota dates to 1240 as the capital of the Ponuzya in the 13th-14th centuries. This village is located in the Kamyanets-Podilsky district of the Khmelnytsky Oblast. In the 12th century in Bakota lived about 2.5 thousand people, it covered an area of 10 hectares. In the 13th century, it was a very large city and political and administrative center in the Dniester's Ponuzya. It was even part of the Kingdom of Galicia–Volhynia. In 1430 it was the center of Bakota's volost. As a result of the peace between the Kingdom of Poland and Lithuania, in 1431 Bakota became a neutral border territory. The villagers organized an uprising in the same year and Bakota gained independence. But 3 years later, Polish troops suppressed the revolt and dispersed the population. Since then, Bakota lost its city status.A peace treaty was also concluded in Bakota between the Kingdom of Poland and the Principality of Moldavia. There have been no interesting developments in Bakota recently. After 1918, a large wall was built along the river because Bakota became a border village. In 1933 there was no famine in Bakota, but the construction of the church was stopped and the monastery was closed. During the Second World War, no fighting took place on the territory of Bakota, but in 1947 there was a terrible famine, due to which the population decreased more than three times. In 1996, the bulk of the caves were destroyed due to the collapse of the upper rock of the White Mountain. They had many murals and frescoes of 11-13 centuries. But in one place the remains of the burials, cells, and abandoned gardens have been preserved. In 1981, the population was evicted and Bakota was flooded due to the construction of the Novodnistrovskaya HPP. People were relocated, but remember this period in history with tears in their eyes. Somewhere at the bottom there is a centuries-old history and their whole life.
